The TL;DR February 12th, 2018

This week we're talking about the best ads from the Big Game, how to create loyal customers and Pinterest's seasonal cycles.

The 5 Best Ads from The Big Game

This year’s game was full of showstopping ads – here are the top five, according to Adweek. You can read more and watch the spots here.

The TL;DR

  1. Tide – “It’s a Tide Ad”
    • The campaign everyone’s been talking about – Tide brilliantly parodied some of the most iconic ads of recent years and put their own spin on them. Not only did this generate a ton of buzz, it softened the recent controversy around Tide Pods.
  2. Amazon – “Alexa Loses Her Voice”
    • This difficult to describe ad stars Gordon Ramsey, Rebel Wilson, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and Cardi B in a world where Alexa could no longer speak. It was comedy gold, featuring great timing and brilliant writing.
  3. Doritos/Mountain Dew – “Doritos Blaze vs Mtn Dew Ice”
    • Starring Morgan Freeman, Peter Dinklage, Busta Rhymes, and Missy Elliott, this visually stunning piece is a playful ad for two sister brands.
  4. Tourism Australia – “Dundee”
    • This parody film trailer showcased Australia while entertaining viewers – and left watchers wanting an actual movie about these two characters.
  5. NFL – “Touchdown Celebrations to Come”
    • This lighthearted spot does a great job getting people excited for next year’s football season while being enjoyable to fans and non-fans alike.

5 Ways for Retail Brands to Inspire Customer Loyalty

While a powerful force, brand loyalty can be difficult to inspire. Here are five tips to help your brand earn it. You can read the full article here.

The TL;DR

  1. Respect Their Time: No one has enough time in modern society, so anything a brand can do to make life easier for buyers puts them ahead of the pack. Think of how clothing curation boxes eliminate time wasted shopping and meal delivery services keep buyers from having to go to the grocery store.
  2. Embrace Experiential Retail: With the ease and convenience of online shopping, brick and mortar stores have to do more. Stores now need to be a destination, not an errand.
  3. Allow For Sampling: Today’s consumers are skeptical – giving them the opportunity to try a product risk free builds trust and lets them find out for themselves how the product can meet their needs.
  4. Provide Engaging and Credible Content: Cultivating a point-of-view that makes sense for your brand and sharing it on social can help consumers feel more connected to your product. Buyers want brands to feel real and human, so focus on being authentic.
  5. Prioritize Customer Service: Customers are loyal to the brands that take care of them. Focusing on meeting consumer needs and taking care in one-on-one interactions can help a brand develop a loyal following.
